Tea with the Moon

A shiny blue kettle makes tea for one
Rain patters on the attic window
Looking out across a night of  lovers
The full moon stirs a sacred longing

Honour the mysteries of this life.
Everywhere, is a gateway
that will draw you in and bless you.

It pulls so much sweetness through this body
Such tender sadness
A white hot stream of grief
That carves out channels of fire
In places that nobody speaks of.

The scent of incense lingers on the air
And two candles flicker peacefully
Light and shadow dance on the walls
Of this great space waiting to be filled.

This morning my body was sick
So I lay down and slept
When I awoke
It was to a place of incredible disconnection
I sense life slipping out of reach
What realm is this
Where am I now?

Change has her own rhythm
We can not master time.

Life seems to say:
“This is what is happening now,
and anyway,
Who are you?
Will you accept or resist?”

Another world has fallen away
Just as a snake drops her skin
And in this new place
The silence is grey.
There is no ground
No body, no voice
Because the witness has no solidity
Everything is unfamiliar
There is no one left here for anything to refer to.
Whose eyes are these?

Something will continue.

I can not explain to anyone
That I do not know what is happening.
That I am so vast, I am lost inside my own self.
And so small I don’t even exist.
Sometimes I feel like everything I ever was
tries to hold on. But it is already gone.

Searching for reality, Everything melts away.

Nobody can silence
a voice seeking truth.
Even when thoroughly ashamed,
we stand up straight, saying:
“Here I am, wash all I am not away”

A young bird is so perfectly innocent
She does not stop singing
Until she finally finds her song.

Honesty continuously refines herself.
She can not be defined.
She can only keep moving
and keep letting go.

It does not matter how we feel.
If we use it well.
Take everything as a question, not an answer.
That’s where freedom lies.
We get shown the same thing thousands of different ways.
That is all there is,
everything points to That.

Chaos descends on all our days and nights
We hold on this tiny spark at the centre of it all.
“I am here” We say,
“Please, continue.”

Who understands how painful it can be
to stand here naked.
It can be so humiliating to reveal
that the best you have to offer
Is nothing more than an illusion.
Who has felt the value of tears?

Who has reached that place
that, out of choicelessness,
Summons up the courage it takes to say
“Look these are my mistakes
I don’t even know how ignorant I am
but teach me, please
strip me bare.”

Nobody can teach
a heart to love
Nobody can say what love is.
In each being it arises
in a unique way
And each expression is a path
That leads unto itself.

Those who tasted truth
Or glimpsed it
Even for a fleeting moment
Go crazy
They become wild and uncontainable
They attempt to break down the construction
Of everything which obscures it.

Tonight I am alive
Light touches everything.
It is only my own self.
We wound our own self
All seeking the same Love

So blind to it all.
I can’t even speak.
I don’t know where I came from
or what creates these worlds.
From where does one find the integrity
to surrender, so unknowing, to life?
How do we keep on stepping
so clumsily amidst all this beauty?
What pulls us?

My prayer is this:

May love find her way
With grace, and wisdom
May she have full presence
And full strength

May she destroy wisely
In a way which heals
May she create space
where others find truth

May she wear a face
that reveals the presence of others
May she reflect clearly
undistorted

May her humility
give birth to compassion
May her gentleness have genuine power
to allow others their strength

and honour the freedom to love.

Meet Life Here

The world has become a dream
the layers blurred and mingled.
When I don’t feel G-d
in every heart beat,
I am lost in the mist –
Belonging nowhere

I walk through this city
in a body made of space;
I can’t find any place
that I am – or am not.

The senses flow unrecognised,
erased of meaning;
My story floats unreachable,
beyond the stillness.
I think I have forgotten
how to be a person.

I move amongst people a stranger,
There’s a place from where the Soul comes –
to which we all return
I know us each so intimately,
so inseparably there – I have become
invisible.

Heart whispers:

“Look at the moon,
breathe in unseen
sounds of light – moving,
watch the wind,
feel rain on skin –

Let love find you.

There is a silence
in all things – meet life
here.

Turn to the world empty handed;
Listen to the beauty
everywhere – waiting
to be spoken.

Fill the deepest holding
of your heart – now
breathe out
all the blessings.”

Long Time Coming

The moon is beautiful
and sometimes
a long time coming.

She is not always as close
or full as this night,
she draws my burning heart
to reflect the purest longing.

The light which has been hidden
will be revealed,
it’s spilling over, waiting.

Consume me with your truth;
Bless the weeping
face turned upwards:
The mistakes I have made,
may they be your becoming

Every moment that I forget you
or ask you to look away,
let it hurt me so deeply,
pain me even more than this.

Break me open, let there be no rest
until have emptied into you completely.

Show me where I did wrong,
don’t be kind.
Give me the courage
to make everything right;

I’ll be here waiting, watching,
listening for you all night.

The darkness is radiant,
pours my heart into the deepest places

Suspended in grace
I die unto the love once more
Dawn comes, lost in praying,
Keep me with you,
Keep me with you today.

Laugh

“When anyone tries to tell me
that the Beloved does not exist,
I laugh –
For it is like hearing the full moon say
(absolutely radiant)
that there is no sun, or light!”

Amber

You can call me a crazy woman all you like,
but you didn’t see the moon tonight!
(Not so that she grabbed you
right in the centre of your still silent place
and made your Love so wild
that the world stopped spinning.)

My G-d, she was so vast, so low,
she was sailing, amber,
right down close.

When I see her like that,
naked, on fire,
almost full,

I know that however you choose to judge me,
if one glance doesn’t stun you, fill your lungs,
squeeze you, stir you;
You are the one
you, not I,
Who has lost something beautiful.

Unwrapped

The moon took me tonight,
took me with her luminous beauty
hanging there, so secret, so full
and wrapped me, a million times around.

I wish she had wrapped me
a million times more,
so that I might have drawn
closer, enough to stay;

Because the light she reflects
was always soft and true,
and she never whispers anything
that is not love.

A friend put his hand on my heart
then took it away completely,
so now when the wind blows
it blows right through me.

Everything I thought was me
hurts too much to keep,
I walk like a person
but feel all air and space.

I hoped he could touch my mind
so I would lose that too,
because all I ever ask for
is to be fully empty.

The moon has gone behind clouds
and the wind is not blowing.
I am becoming unwrapped.
I sit like a person, an old, tired person.

Every Face

Standing alone on an empty road:
shall I turn left or right,
would it really make a difference?
No reason to go here or there!

Inside the houses, people
are busy living –
full with being somebody;

They all have a story to tell
and they ask me:

“Who are you?
What do you do?
Where did you come from?
What do you want?

Then say:

“If you don’t be someone,
you won’t go anywhere!
You must do something useful with your life!
You must use your precious time wisely!”

“Be happy!
Don’t cry!
Where’s your logic?
Don’t be a fool!
Pull your self together!
Spread your wings!
Socialise!
What good have you done today?”

“Show me your knowledge
and I’ll show you mine,
What have you learned?
How intelligent are you?”

There are a thousand different ways
to do everything all wrong!
Yet when the sun comes at dawn
he kisses every face turned upwards.

I don’t need to have a name
to hear the blackbird singing.

There are enough people being busy
setting the world to rights
and doing grand or beautiful things.

Speak of any science, any art,
some shall master them perfectly.

Let those with knowledge debate
the history and future of society,
and those with skilful means
make changes where they will.

Everything is understood somewhere.

I shall lay my load down here
beneath a star filled sky:

Cry like a baby
(when I want to)
or laugh with joy

For simply no reason at all.

Life does not need me to be intelligent
to understand what has been written
in books and the heart of man.

Why should I search for treasure
to hold in two empty hands?

The infinite continues unfolding
even when I do nothing at all!

Perhaps I should make an effort
to become a better ‘person’,
but i think i’ll just stay here
and watch the moon…

Some one has to love her light
spilling out so shamelessly
over all that is seen

She is painting everything silver

whilst
we
sleep.

Spirit is Born

I shall stay awake all night
sitting within my own stillness.
I shall listen for the echo of the drum beat
then journey to its source.
I shall return to that place from which the heart whispers;
Where lovers reveal moonlight secrets:
where spirit is born.

At dawn I will go out
into the unbroken day.
I shall walk lightly with clear eyes and an open heart
so that I will be present to receive your blessings
with the awareness that they deserve.
I shall bathe in the music of new beginnings
and bear witness to the mysteries you have revealed.

When the world stirs I will turn to face you and say “YES!
and YES!” because I am not afraid to give myself completely
whilst honouring my own sweet truth;
So that each step is a humble offering
to adorn your dance.
I shall empty my mind to receive what we had always known
then bow down to honour your beauty.

I will remember yesterday’s sorrows
only for the wisdom which they taught.
And what was not given with love I shall set aside:-
Liberating our ancient hurts
to be returned to that place from which the heart whispers;
Where lovers create sun-kissed futures
and spirit is born

Moon Temple

Last night I visited a moon temple,
great slabs of stone in fallen ruins
all bathed in silver light.
The moon was bigger than i’d ever seen her,
hanging in the sky.
(Only it was not the sky but some other place.)
I could hear the moon song – it is a certain tone
and the body responds as though magnetised.

I sat on a fallen slab,
smooth, hard. strangely, not cold
and the voice with silence conveyed:
“Welcome to sit here!
This is the moon temple,
beings come here to absorb her light.
When she is full
there is healing wisdom to exchange,
let it wash over you.”
It was a wordless gathering.
A communion of sorts

I asked if it were a real place,
“Perhaps not in your world
but it exists in the collective consciousness.
The energies of archetypal images are very real,
look around you!”

There were all kinds of creatures,
moving amongst the silvery shapes.
Some i could not recognise,
But there by my foot,
a small, brown mouse.
It was watching me
and the voice said:
“This is your courage
it represents courage with humility.”
I thought,
“it’s rather small!”
and felt amused.

Then a huge wild cat,
a leopard or cougar perhaps.
She was sleek and white,
muscles rippling,
larger than I.
As she rubbed against me,
shivers up and down my spine,
back arched throat stretched,
a tear falling, tricking;
an electric tingle,
her deep purr
and the voice said:
“This is your power,
it represents power with grace.”

And all the while,
the silver light,
cleansing, infusing, recharging
and the moon sound,
like the tone of tuning fork;
some high vibration
spilling across the ancient ruins
where spirit beings wander.

I could feel my womb resonating,
warmth slipping, drawing,
and some kind of relief
in recognising that this wild feeling
is cellular, not just of my mind.

Then I slept.
