On a windy day

The wind rattles at the window
saying “Wake up!
Leave everything important behind,
come out and play!
Come, run with me
run free!
Let your most precious thoughts
fly out behind you –
I shall catch them and hang them on trees
to be blown away with the leaves one day.”

Now, leaves are falling.
and clouds never learnt the idea
of being solid.
We had to learn our troubles.
Come outside and breathe:
each breath is the only breath
in this instant, the first breath
never before, never again.
Everything is fresh and new:
don’t forget to be surprised!

A baby claps her hands and laughs with delight
at a thousand new things
every day.
Don’t grow old and bored of loving,
throw away the habit
of telling stories that dull the senses.
Be delighted
again and again.

Dance now because
everything you have
you will lose one day.
This is the best reason to dance!
Let life be like clouds
soft and magnificent
enjoying a wild transformation.

The birds are having a marvellous time
riding on the wind today.
Look at the sky!
Don’t tie yourself down
to anything which is no longer alive.
When the wind comes to rattle your windows
open them up and fly.
Be happy and free.

This is your moment:
incomprehensibly tremendous,
amazingly unexplored.
Don’t attempt to fit it
into a familiar dusty box.
The great mysteries have been waiting
far too long
for your presence
for the salute of your attention
for your joyful celebration.

Breathing formless into form,
form into formless,
be the crazy one
in love with nothing.
Be the one who, losing everything, can’t stop laughing,
who hangs their precious thoughts on trees
to be blown away like leaves.
Be that one who listens to the wind and smiles inexplicably,
blessed by every breath, saying
Thank you,
Thank you.
Thank you
