Oh, Heart!

I woke in the night
and there were tears,
so many tears, falling:
My heart wide open, weeping
for all those
who could not take your hand.

There were thirsty men in the desert –
travelled so far, searching
for their longing to be quenched;
You came to them with water
but they did not know you
and they could not drink.

I woke in the stillness,
it was such a sweet, soft night
and I was weeping.
I saw  so many thirsty men
praying, walking, searching –
oh, Heart, what will become of them?
